ExploreThe Watercraft Journal named the Yamaha GP1800R WaveRunner as its pick for Watercraft of the Year for the second year in a row.
According to The Watercraft Journal editor Kevin Shaw, "It’s simply too hard to argue with the unparalleled success of the GP1800R – on the showroom floor and the race course."
"Be it closed course or long distance offshore endurance racing, the lightweight, supercharged Yamaha continues as the King of the Mountain," said Shaw. "And its success carried on beyond the race track to the showroom floor as the third highest selling personal watercraft of 2018."
Powered by Yamaha's 1.8L SVHO marine engine and riding on Yamaha's proprietary NanoXcel 2 high-performance hull, the GP1800R is the most dominant race performance PWC since its debut. The GP1800R is undefeated in Pro Stock racing, also called the Manufacturers' Class because these PWC are the best representation of out-of-the-box performance.
For 2019, the Yamaha GP1800R is receiving significant performance upgrades that include a newly designed intake grate and ride plate that separates the GP1800R from its competition even further.
The Watercraft Journal’s “Watercraft of The Year” is the only award of its type issued within the personal watercraft industry media. Each entry is handpicked from the various models personally reviewed by The Watercraft Journal throughout the year and judged on industry impact, innovation, market reception, and other attributes.
