Yamaha Navione Wheelchair Power Assist System

Yamaha NAVIONE power assist system makes debut at International Seating Symposium (ISS)

CYPRESS, Calif., March 06, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, announced today it will enter the U.S. power assist wheelchair market with its NAVIONE power assist wheelchair system.

The NAVIONE power assist wheelchair system will be on display and available to experience at the 34th International Seating Symposium (ISS) in Vancouver, B.C. ISS is a premier gathering of the top clinicians, providers and researchers for the complex rehabilitation industry.

NAVIONE is an innovative and intuitive power assist wheelchair system that gives riders new power, confidence and control of their mobility. Yamaha Motor Company, Ltd. (YMC) originally launched our first electric wheelchair product in 1996, based on the overwhelming success of Yamaha's patented Power Assist System (PAS) technology for power assist bicycles. The new NAVIONE system reflects Yamaha’s latest innovative features and technology developed over the past 20 years of global business.

“We are very excited to provide this innovative and globally proven technology to U.S. customers with our launch of NAVIONE,” said Rob Trester, Division Manager of New Business Development. “The design of NAVIONE is focused around the combination of human power and electric power assist to completely enhance the overall mobility experience.”

“With its advanced control system and adaptability to a wide range of users, NAVIONE will enable manual wheelchair users to expand the range of their day-to-day lives,” said Joe Klickna, JW Business Unit Manager. “We are thankful to bring the many benefits of Yamaha’s technology to new riders.”

NAVIONE’s innovative proportional drive control combined with wheel to wheel communication, results in comfortable and confident propulsion that could also help reduce future shoulder pain (vs. non assist manual wheelchairs).

The NAVIONE will be available for test rides and review during ISS. Please check out the new NAVIONE website at YAMAHANAVI.COM to learn more. Or contact Yamaha at [email protected].
